The Home Care Association of Florida (HCAF) invites you to join fellow home health providers on Thursday, May 21 for our Home Care Connection: Certified Edition Spring 2020 event. In light of the COVID-19 public health emergency, we have consolidated our regional, in-person events into one statewide webinar event. During the two-hour presentation, Simione Healthcare Consultants' Julia Maroney and Rob Simione will examine recent transformational policy changes and their impact on home health providers, as well as review strategies for 'getting back to normal' once the COVID-19 pandemic subsides. Topics to be discussed include, among others: - The federal CARES Act, Medicare provider relief funding, and what you need to know about tracking your expenses; - Public health emergency considerations now and going forward to better protect the safety of your staff and patients (e.g., access to personal protective equipment, fostering social distancing in the workplace, etc.); - What the new Medicare provider waivers mean for home health, notably non-physician practitioner certifying eligibility for home health services, and changes to homebound status and the face-to-face encounter requirement; - The increasing importance of telehealth as a care delivery system; and, - Assessing the first five months of Medicare's Patient-Driven Groupings Model (PDGM). Following this information-packed presentation, HCAF's Bobby Lolley and Kyle Simon will provide a brief update on the 2020 Florida Legislative Session, regulatory developments, and other issues that impact your business. This webinar is in follow-up to our recent webinar on Tracking Expenditures of Medicare Emergency Relief Funds. During this online presentation, Melinda Gaboury, CEO of Healthcare Provider Solutions, will briefly review the tracking and reporting requirements related to how agencies spent the funds that were received from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services before diving into updates that were released since then. As mentioned in the last webinar, you need to track every penny. Therefore, during this webinar the speaker will share and walk you through a template developed by the National Association for Home Care and Hospice that is designed to assist you in this process.    Course Author: Melinda Gaboury  Read more

Join Home Health Solutions CEO J'non Griffin this Friday, May 8 at 12 PM ET for a quick recap of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' (CMS) recently announced interim final rule with comment period (IFC) for home health. In addition to multiple recent federal waivers, the IFC includes significant policy changes, including, among others, that it permanently makes it allowable for certain non-physician practitioners — including nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and certified nurse specialists — to certify and order home health services for Medicare beneficiaries. Additionally, the CMS’ recent changes pertaining to occupational therapists performing initial and comprehensive assessments has created some confusion among providers. This topic will be reviewed for clarification.    Course Author: J'non Griffin  Read more

Wendy Barlin, CPA, will teach home care agency owners how to maximize their business income tax deductions and keep more of their hard earned money. The IRS publishes a list every year of deductions that taxpayers missed taking. Accountants usually do not have the time to review with each of their clients and so agency owners often turn to family, friends, colleagues, or worse — Google for advice. Is this you? Are you overpaying your taxes? Want to learn how to take more deductions and keep more of your hard earned cash? Read more

This webinar will take agencies through the Medicare Emergency Relief Fund criteria for tracking and reporting on how agencies spent the funds that were received from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS). When the funds were announced it appeared that there were “no strings attached”. If you think something is too good to be true, it usually is! While the funds do not have to be repaid to HHS, home health agencies will have to track what it is spent on and report quarterly. Don’t make the mistake of thinking that you will worry about this later — you need to track every penny. Course Author: Melinda Gaboury Read more
