In addition to multiple recent federal waivers, the IFC includes significant policy changes, including, among others, that it permanently makes it allowable for certain non-physician practitioners — including nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and certified nurse specialists — to certify and order home health services for Medicare beneficiaries. Additionally, the CMS’ recent changes pertaining to occupational therapists performing initial and comprehensive assessments has created some confusion among providers.
