Description
This course is built to satisfy OSHA’s infection control requirement for home care. The goal of this course is to educate employees on standard precautions and infection control in the home care setting.
The course targets anyone who works in a home care setting. This means nurses, CNAs, home health aides, therapists, and office staff.
Objectives
At the conclusion, participants should be able to:
- Identify the modes of transmission of infections (chain of infection, infection agents, reservoir, susceptible hosts, HAIs, portal and entry, immunizations).
- Demonstrate an understanding of what tuberculosis is and who are the high-risk populations.
- Demonstrate an understanding personal responsibility as a home health care worker to prevent the spread of infection.
- Demonstrate an understanding standard precautions.
- Demonstrate proper hand washing and hand rubbing skills
- Demonstrate proper aseptic bag technique.
- Demonstrate the proper order of donning and removing Personal Protective Equipment.
- Identify when to use the correct PPE.
- Identify items in the home that you should look out for to manage and dispose.
- Demonstrate proper waste management and disposal to prevent the spread of infection.
- Demonstrate the patient education process.
- Identify the lessons to teach your patient that are essential to help them prevent infection.
